This consultation will help determine the best approach to meet the communication needs of the individual client and to create appropriate recommendations for therapy, further evaluation or referral to another specialist, if warranted.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication

Augmentative communication means to add something to verbal speech to help clarify a message and alternative means using another way to communicate rather than verbal speech. At Speakology, we frequently use tools, systems, devices and strategies to help a person communicate. AAC evaluations are completed to help determine what would provide an individual with the best way to communicate with their world.

Treatment

Family and school carryover is essential to treatment success, and caregiver education is embedded into the therapy sessions. Speakology staff is available for ongoing consultations and training in order to implement recommendations, including training of staff in the use of AAC equipment.
